If you find more on Julie Andrews amazing work through the years in television do post them! She is an underrated coloratura soprano (when compared to how we mostly envision her as a movie actor)

Love this. I try to preserve Rosie’s television career by getting ahold of 16mm film reels from her 1956/1957 variety show. About a year ago I remember emailing you asking about the whereabouts of the episode with Dorothy Kirsten, which at the time I had no idea where it could be, nor you knew. But now I’ve successfully found it and posted it to the public for all Rosie fans to enjoy. I really think it’s important to preserve television history, you always find a song (or anything really) by an artist that you’ve never heard , like when a tv special or show has been revealed that hasn’t seen the light of day in decades, most since their airing time. I’m not sure if I’ve asked you before , but does the American songbook foundation contain some of Rosie’s arrangements from her television show ?

P.S. I grew up in Westchester County and used to visit Judy at Ferncliff Cemetery in Hartsdale, NY and bring her 💐 to show my appreciafor her talent. Now I can't, but I understand. She needs to be near her children now.❤ Hope that doesn't sound weird. I used to call her Judy Garlic when I was little (what do you expect from a then, 4 yr old Italian kid?😉). Sadly, that's how old I was when Judy passed😢 I used to speak of her in my "patter"😊 when I performed. May she rest in eternal peace. 💖😊🌪⭐️👗👠👠🌈

This was really fascinating to hear the various styles and how they change the context of the song, and as is usual from Michael, to learn some music history, too!

CORRECTION: No, THE MUSIC MAN was not performed in Indonesian, etc., etc., The Chinese/Mandarin production in Beijing in 1987 was the FIRST on-Broadway musical given a Mandarin version. (And the Chinese FANTASTICKS which preceded it by a few months, was the first off-Broadway musical given its Mandarin translation.) It would be nice to know if THE MUSIC MAN has been performed in the other major western languages most Broadway musicals are translated to: German, Spanish, French, Italian (and possible Portuguese?). The Russians, of course, cheat with their translations.

I love everything she’s ever recorded and have at least 15 of her albums. I love her rendition of The Folk Who Live on the Hill. I’ve read her autobiography. Thank you for sharing this video. I hope a young lady I knew at university 35 years ago sees this video. She was an academic snob who thought the lyrics of Gershwin, Porter and the other greats were just trite meaningless rubbish. Amazing how an academic with a sense of intellect superiority could get something so wrong. Sometimes a genius is more akin to someone who has intuition and nuance. This was a great video. Thank you, Michael Feinstein, for posting it. I hope she now gets it.

Thank you Michael for the overview of Alice Faye's career, character, the times and her wonderful talents. I love the feature of the arrangements, especially Alexander's Ragtime Band. Alice's smooth delivery is so cool and wonderful to listen. I am thrilled to collect Alice's sheet music and movies and her great recordings, including the Radio Shows, such as Hello, Frisco, Hello with her wonderful performances such as You'll Never Know. Wonderful incredible performances with John Payne and Lynn Bari. The Harry Warren composition on Alice's Legendary work is remarkable. I look forward to watching more of American Songbook. Thanks !
